Hero Cantare Review
Hero Cantare is the first shot at trying to bring webtoons to the same battlefield as japanese style mobile games.
As an avid reader of webtoons and manwha myself I was pretty excited to see a mobile game based around this format. That being said I have given the game a few hours of my time so far and have yet to see much if any innovation when it comes to the game.
THE WAIFUS
A huge downside to this game is the inability to view your waifus without having a bunch of UI and text infront of you face. So that already gives me a bad feeling about this game.
This game luckily is pretty generous with its gacha pulling. You have an hour cooldown for a free pull whenever you want. As well as when you start the game it gives you a guaranteed SS pull gacha that lets you re-roll it as much as you want. I appreciated this feature as it gives you that gacha high everytime rather than just choosing your favorite hero.
The paid store also seems a lot cheaper and more generous when you compare it to notoriously draining games like fire emblem and fate/stay. So if you decide to go that route you can expect to be rewarded in your wallet endeavours.
I'll be upfront about it, the combat in this game is very dull. You will always find yourself pressing the auto combat and the x2 button. The only joy from this game you get is from pulling the gachas. The linear combat is even more worse then most gacha games I've tried.
Besides seeing the flashy skill animations and hearing them shout "HAAAARRRRGHHH!!!!" there is little reason to look at what is happening on your screen. So if you're looking for compelling and strategic gameplay, you won't be very happy trying this out.
SKILL TREE
The most interesting and innovative part about this game so far is the skill tree or what the game calls awakening. I can only imagine how important this stuff becomes end game. I'm sure this combined with the items the game equips you with will be the most important aspect when whales are competing against each other.
Resources are fairly scarce in the game when trying to unlock your awake tree. I can probably estimate a good couple days worth of grinding to max one of these babies out on your favorite character. It is satisfying to see the tree grow and lit up as a rainbow the more money you pour into it though.
STORYLINE
The biggest thing this game has going for it is the story. I wouldn't recommend playing this game if you aren't familiar with the characters. It's akin to see naruto meet ichigo from bleach. If you know the personalities of these characters from reading the webtoons then you're sure to have a lot of fun seeing them interact with each other.
That being said I can only say that those familiar with the characters and manwha that this game is associated with will have fun with it. If you are I highly recommend giving the game a chance to see if the shallow gameplay somehow hits its mark with you.
I can't say i will continue playing but it was fun to see hardcore leveling warrior in a mobile game being animated. Let me know your thoughts on this new game in the comments below!
